Describe your practice and challenges
When you apply for the Mia prize you will be asked to describe your policies and practice on the different areas. It is very important that you describe your policies, for example what measures and steps you have taken, so that the panel of judges will be able to make an impression of the working culture inside the company. The Mia award is presented to the companies that can function as a role model for other companies. Therefore, theoretical policies alone are not enough to win this award. It is crucial that the panel of judges perceive that policies and active measures are taken by the company, in order to secure a diverse working place.
Equal treatment and diversity can be achieved by looking your challenges and barriers in the eyes and do something actively about it. For this reason, the panel of judges strongly emphasize that the winner of the award will be a role model, so that others can see that they have faced their challenges and come up with solutions that promotes diversity and equal opportunities. It is therefore important that you describe actual problems and challenges that you have faced. In this way you can become a trustworthy and reliable role model for other companies that might be in the same situations as you have been in, in the past.
Documentation of your results
In order to win the Mia award you will need to document your results. For this reason, it is important that relevant documents are enclosed with your application form so that the panel of judges can see whether your efforts have had an impact, for example on your representation of women or ethnic minorities in your company, positive feedback from costumers or an increased turnover if you have expanded to new markets for instance.
The more practice and results that you can document for, the greater the chances will be for the panel of judges to make an appraisal of your company. So please remember to enclose all your documentations and be aware that documentations can take any form, whether it be turnover percents and statistics, inspections on the employees well being, absence due to illness etc.
Each company has different conditions
Just as all human beings are different from one and another, so to are companies which we respect. With this in mind, we do not expect the same policies and measures from small and medium-sized companies compared to large public companies. For this reason it is natural that the companies will only compete against others that have their own size.
When you fill in your form it is therefore necessary to keep this in mind and look at the situation and reality that exists within your company and trade.
Good luck with your application!
