The Diversity in the Workplace Project under the Danish Institute for Human Rights promotes equal treatment and non-discrimination in Danish companies — public and private, large and small. The work is based on a horizontal approach to equal treatment that incorporates the experience and knowledge of discrimination on the grounds of gender, age, ethnicity, belief, disability and sexual orientation. Below is a description of our products and other projects.

At present, employees of the MIA-project have published a book on diversity management, a poster for diversity in the workplace, two homepages celebrating and informing of diversity leadership, a compliance tool for companies plus we offer consultation and counciling to companies in need of help or general direction in the area.

Book on Diversity Management and Equal Treatment

The DIHR and the MIA-project has published a book on diversity management, “Diversity in the Workplace – When we’re equal but not the same.” The book proposes a ‘MIA-model’ for diversity management as a guiding tool for practical experts in the field of diversity and equal opportunities. The MIA-model is a result of dialogues with business experts, NGOs, and various key actors, and it reflects the many examples of business practice which have surfaced during the competition for the MIA-prize. The book takes its outset in recent EU legislation on discrimination and equal treatment and brings together Danish and international experts from different disciplinary backgrounds, who demonstrate the way to an inclusive organisation. The Danish version of the book was published at the MIA-award event in March 2005.

The book is availabe in both Danish and English. To order, please e-mail sha@humanrights.dk - or contact Project leader Susanne Nour.

Compliance tool on Equal Treatment

At the MIA-award event 2005 DIHR also launched a Danish folder "Ligebehandlingslovtjek". That's Danish for 'Equal Treatment Compliance Tool'. The folder is a tool which Danish companies and workplaces can use as a checklist, to measure how well they comply with Danish legislation on anti-discrimination. As of yet, the compliance tool is only available in Danish.

The Wheel of Diversity

The training offered by the Diversity in the Workplace Project is based on the Wheel of Diversity, a toolbox of more than 40 methodologies and approaches for managing diversity. The purpose is to embed Danish and European best practices on discrimination and equal treatment into company cultures and manager competencies. The tool box is both accessible as a web-based tool and as a printed manual. The tool box is supported by the publication: Guidelines to Mangfoldighed – development of vision, strategy and action plan.
